Travel tips for visiting Australia

Australia is one of the many places I have yet to visit. Although I’ve travelled around Asia several times, the nearest I’ve been to Australia is beautiful Bali. Australia is still high on my travel bucket list and I’ve always heard great things about the country from friends who have visited. From stunning beaches to beautiful national parks, Australia is a hugely diverse country. If I do visit anytime soon, I have several destinations on my list.

I’d love to scuba dive at the Great Barrier Reef! I have my PADI but the last time I went diving was years ago! With over 2,900 individual reefs and 900 islands, the Great Barrier Reef is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and a diver’s dream! The second area on my list would have to be Uluru (Ayers Rock) and the wider area of ‘the Outback’. I can’t help thinking of the film ‘Crocodile Dundee’ but the scenery in that film is stunning and following several Australian travel bloggers on Instagram has left me in awe of the region! The Blue Mountains is another area of beauty I have seen on Instagram and other travel blogs. With forests, cliffs, waterfalls and stunning views, it looks breathtaking! Along with Sydney, Fraser Island and the popular beaches such as Bondi, I’m sure you easily spend months touring around Australia. As I write this I am feeling quite envious of anyone living in Australia! UK travel and scenery (plus the unpredictable weather) doesn’t quite compare does it!

Luckily, a trip to Australia is much more accessible in today’s economic climate! The Flight Centre has recently compiled the top tips for holidays to Australia which include tips on finding the cheapest tickets, what to pack in your suitcase, the most popular stopovers and the average duration of a holiday. I was surprised to see that Edinburgh is the cheapest UK departure point when flying to Australia and you’ll gain a staggering 50% lower price in fare if you book five months ahead! You can now fly direct from the UK to Australia with Qantas in 17 hours! Read all the fascinating facts in this visual guide.
