Our holiday in Venice with kids: the highlights

Before Pip started school this year (still can’t believe he’s in school!) we decided to take a last-minute holiday to Venice, Italy! We were planning on taking a UK break but when Airbnb offered me a chance to collaborate with them we decided to travel to Italy instead! I’ve written about Venice previously after we visited when Pip was a baby. It is truly beautiful and will always be one of my favourite cities. This was my fourth trip and I could still visit again and again. I could never tire of this wonderful historical city as there is always something new to explore. Here are the highlights from our four day trip!

Enjoying the hot weather at the end of summer. It averaged about 25C degrees every day (usual early September weather in Venice) and it was so nice to soak up the sun. I got a good tan!

Taking in the beautiful scenery and landscape of Venice, its character and charm.

Enjoying the view from our spacious Airbnb apartment overlooking the surrounding buildings and canal below.

Tasting some truly delicious food including this ice-cream whilst on the Hidden Venice Food Tour with the Roman guy. We also ate crazy amounts of pizza, it was addictive!

Strolling along the canals and quiet back streets with no particular place to go ☺

Taking a 'traghetto' gondola - a short but cheap ride across the canal.

Climbing up to the top of St Mark's Basilica with the kids and seeing the whole square in front of us.

Going for a swim in the sea on the Lido. It's a beautiful beach and the same one we visited when Pip was a baby.  It's always lovely to have sand beneath our feet (unlike here in Brighton) and a warm sea!

Sitting in the squares with a coffee watching Venetian life go by.

Witnessing another stunning sunset behind the Venetian skyline on our boat ride return from the Lido.

  6. Looks so lovely and relaxing. The last time I was in Venice we accidentally went on a labour day holiday. It was so jammed packed and busy we barely had the chance to look around. I'd love to go back one day when it's nice and quiet.
