A Birthday Trip to West Wittering Beach

At the end of May Pip turned four and we spent his birthday on West Wittering Beach! I can barely believe he is four already, time flies. It feels like he was just toddling around. Now he is an energetic little boy, running around and full of beans! Four is a wonderful age. Pip is so active, curious, headstrong and loves an adventure. He also has such a sweet, sensitive soul and is forever telling me how much he loves me. He wears me out but he's my little adventure buddy.

When looking where to spend Pip's birthday we did think about visiting a theme park, zoo or to experience some type of adventure day. We have spent Pip's previous birthdays at Drusillas Park in Sussex and also in Cornwall and although lots of fun we wanted something carefree and relaxed. I find the thought of going to a big theme park quite exciting but in reality, I'd probably find it quite stressful and tiring. We wanted to go to somewhere local where we weren't going to lose our hair in the process and need to find an affordable hair transplant cost!

Pip loves the beach and we are lucky to live within walking distance of the sea in Brighton. However, although there is sand in low tide, it is essentially a pebbly beach. West Wittering beach, on the other hand, is a beautiful sandy beach with a huge expanse of sand and gorgeous grassy sand dunes. When I lived in Cambridge I used to visit Wells-next-the-Sea in North Norfolk and that is one place I miss being so close to. But West Wittering is the southern equivalent. It is a stunning, unspoilt and natural beach in West Sussex, taking about an hour and a half to drive from Brighton.

Luckily for us, Pip's birthday was one of the hottest days of the year. It fell on half-term this year so the beach was busier than expected. But it was wonderful, full of atmosphere and still so much space on the beach. We spent the entire day on the beach with a family picnic, a swim in the sea and a barefoot walk on the sand. We built sandcastles, buried each other in the sand, ran up and down the sand dunes, attempted to fly Pip's new birthday kite, ate ice-creams and enjoyed the beautiful weather. We could not have wished for a better day!

  1. I have never been to this beach but it is so lovely! I really love the tufts of sea grass in the last photo! They are so magical and the contrast with the beach is always a favorite!

  2. Hahah congratz to the little one who turned 4! I agree with you about theme parks... they are more of a pain then anything else. Going to on a beach getaway is a million times better

  6. Stunning beach!! I know when my Son was little (and even now that he's 8) the beach would never disappoint. Good, clean, simple fun is always the best. Kids, especially little ones love to adventure but theme parks and crowed in door play places can be stressful for both kids and parents. I think the best memories are made when everyone's stress free.

  9. West Wittering beach offers such a spectacular view! I agreed, going to amusement park can be stressful and you gotta deal with the crowds - which is not fun. Looks like your little one had lots of fun!
