Summer Holiday Ideas in the UK

The Royal Pavilion
If you read my blog regularly you'll know I love to travel. At the beginning of the year I wrote about my own travel experiences growing up and my reasons for doing the #take12trips challenge. I've been on a trip each month and so far these have included visiting Devil's Dyke, a day trip to Lewes, a weekend in Dorset and a holiday in AmsterdamThis year I also started the #MyFavouriteTrip linky and this has increased my desire to travel even more especially to beautiful cities such as Venice.

I've also had some fantastic holidays in the UK. Such holidays often referred to as 'Staycations' are usually cheaper and offer certain benefits such as avoiding long flights or waiting around in airports when your flight is delayed. They are also more environmentally friendly. For me, I do love the British countryside, it's unique and like no other and it's one of the biggest things I missed when I lived abroad. Cornwall and Devon are two of my favourite counties and are both stunning in their own ways. I love exploring the rolling hills of Devon and the rugged coastal areas of Cornwall. My little boy celebrated his first birthday in Cornwall and we spent the day on the beach in the sunshine.

There are so many UK holidays companies these days. Clickstay is one of them and has over 12,000 holiday homes in more than 50 countries worldwide. These include everything from countryside chateaus to city apartments to luxury villas. In the UK there are listed cottages in Cornwall, Sussex, Cornwall, Devon, Norfolk, the Lake District, Wales, Scotland and many more. I've had a look at the Clickstay website and here are three of my favourites.

Beach Apartment in Brighton

Although I live in Brighton I quite like the idea of staying in a hotel or apartment nearby especially if it has a sea view like this one, right opposite the West Pier! Wouldn't it be lovely waking up to this view and eating breakfast or dinner on the balcony. This apartment has two bedrooms (sleeps 5), two bathrooms and one amazing balcony.

Thatched Holiday Cottage in Ventnor, Isle of Wight

@Clickstay
Another place where I would really like to return to is the Isle of Wight. We took my little boy there when he was just three months, his first ever holiday! I found this stunning quintessential English cottage in Ventnor that also has some beautiful sea views! This looks like such a peaceful place to stay. The house comes with three bedrooms, two bathrooms and sleeps 6.

Orchard Barn at Woodhayes Farm in Devon

Another pretty destination that caught my eye was this one at Orchard Barn in Devon. This farm house has three bedrooms (sleeps 6) and two bathrooms and is set amongst the beautiful rolling hills of Devon. I'm pretty sure I've driven past this hill and the surrounding countryside is just stunning. My two year old is always talking about visiting the countryside and I'm sure he would love a holiday in a setting like this.

There you go. Now I just need to win the lottery to visit all of these places! Prices vary depending on when you travel so please check the website for more details. What's your favourite holiday destination in the UK? Where would you like to visit next? Would love to hear your views.

This is a collaborative post. All words and opinions are my own.

  1. Great post, Polly - I hadn't heard of Clickstay until now and I do love a good staycation.

Although it may not be to these destinations shared, I hope you have some fun adventures ahead of you this year :-)

  3. I love Devon and Cornwall too, but there is so much to discover in the UK - definitely doing more of that since my daughter came along. I very much fancy that Brighton one with the balcony! Last time we visited, we did have sea views but it was early January and the waves were crashing - absolutely not ice cream weather (although my daughter still thought it was) #myfavouritetrip

    1. There are so many lovely places to visit in the UK. The seaviews sound lovely, shame about the weather. It is so changeable here in Brighton. We get some lovely hot days and then usually when family/friends come to visit it turns miserable again! Glad your daughter still had fun though, kids don't care about the weather do they x

  4. We are lucky to have family in both Brighton and North Devon so we can visit both of those a lot. I really like Cornwall, and I also fancy a trip over to the Isle of Wight or Jersey. Both look really nice and have some stunning beaches and scenery.x #myfavouritetrip

    1. Oh that is lucky. The Isle of Wight was my little boy's first little trip when he was just a few months old, would love to return. It's so easy to get to from Brighton too x

  5. I need to win the lottery too! I need to win so that I never have to worry about work for the rest of my life and travel 24/7. :D I've seen a lot of England, but there's so much more to see and do.

  12. I would love to take my kids to visit Brighton this Summer. Ethan went for a day trip when he was only about 2 months old, while we were staying in London at the time. I don't think he had remembered that much. lol! That Thatched Holiday Cottage in Ventnor, Isle of Wight looks awesome though - feels like a real English break. Thank you for hosting. xx

  14. We have just bought a bongo and hoping to do some travelling in it this year, heading to France for the summer.
I love a staycation and have visited Cornwall many times because husbands family are all there, it is stunning but we have endured too many holidays in the rain there now hence going abroad this year!
